Jointly with the Kreisau/Krzyżowa Foundation of Mutual Understanding, the Fundacja Beiteinu Chaj–2004 organized an International Seminar for Students focused on the postwar Jewish Community of Dzierżoniów / Reichenbach. The project had the title “The Jewish Yishuv in Reichenbach / Dzierżoniów in Lower Silesia after the Second World War – Individual and Collective Memories.”
The project was funded by the “Geschichtswerkstatt Europa.”

Intense preparations preceded the celebration of the Jewish New Year that began at sunset September 18 and ended at nightfall September 20.
During the first two weeks in September, several large restoration projects were completed in time for New Year: all windows were permanently glassed in, including the round window, high on the entrance side that carries a Star of David; the rooms on the lower floor and upstairs the prayer room were painted and eight new doors were installed; the final act of this phase of restoration was the opening of the front door that had been bricked up years ago to keep out vandals and other undesirable visitors.

Reunion 2009

For our Foundation and for our Synagogue this Jewish high holiday that begins at sunset September 18, 2009, and ends at nightfall September 20, 2009, is a memorable event for more than one reason.
The main entrance to the synagogue that has been bricked up for many years will be broken open before the holiday and the entrance restored with wooden doors, ready for the first religious service in more than thirty years.
It is symbolic that on this occasion there will be the first reunion in over forty years of about 50 Jews in their 50s and 60s who used to attend the prayer services in the synagogue as young people, before they were forced to leave Poland because of the oppression of the Communist regime of that time.

Poetry reading by Adam Lizakowski took place in our synagogue on July 20th @ 18:00. About 130 people attended this event. It shows how important role the synagogue plays in the cultural life of Dzierżoniów.
